The IDRLabs Invader Zim Character Test is inspired by psychometric methodology and based on research into the characters of the cult animated series. The test provides feedback such as the following:

Zim

Zim is a spectacularly loud, overconfident, and wildly inept Irken invader who truly, wholeheartedly believes he is the universe’s most magnificent being. His delusional self-assurance fuels his dramatic villain speeches, over-the-top evil laughter, and relentless devotion to schemes that always collapse in glorious disaster. Every failure only strengthens his conviction that triumph is moments away. Beneath all the shouting, arrogance, and catastrophic bungling lies a lonely creature desperate for recognition from a society that barely tolerates him. Zim embodies the dangerous, sometimes inspiring power of unshakable belief in oneself, even when every sign points to the opposite. His endless determination, paired with utter incompetence, makes him both a menace and a strangely sympathetic outcast.

GIR

GIR is a chaotic, malfunctioning SIR unit assembled from leftover parts, trash, and possibly unregistered enthusiasm. He bounces between explosive excitement, childish innocence, and total uselessness with no warning whatsoever. GIR adores tacos, dancing, random noises, and anything shiny, often forgetting he is supposed to help Zim conquer Earth—or do anything productive at all. His glitch-filled brain produces nonsense that somehow loops back around into accidental brilliance, though rarely on purpose. Despite being technically broken, GIR radiates joy and freedom, unburdened by logic or responsibility. His unpredictability makes him the worst assistant imaginable, yet also the show’s purest, most lovable presence. GIR proves that imperfection can be liberating, delightful, and weirdly heroic in its own way.

Dib Membrane

Dib is a determined, socially awkward paranormal investigator trapped in the body of an overzealous schoolkid. He is obsessed with exposing the supernatural and, more urgently, proving that his strange green classmate is an alien invader. Armed with intelligence, stubbornness, and a collection of ghost-hunting gadgets, he tirelessly pursues the truth while everyone around him dismisses him as delusional. Dib’s frustration comes from genuinely caring about humanity and wanting to protect it, even as his peers roll their eyes and his family barely notices his existence. His mission isolates him, but he refuses to give up. Dib is a walking “I told you so,” waiting for the moment the world finally realizes he was right all along.

Professor Membrane

Professor Membrane is the world’s most celebrated super-scientist, a towering figure in a lab coat who confidently saves the planet on a near-daily basis. Brilliant, energetic, and entirely consumed by scientific progress, he often communicates with his children through screens, prerecorded messages, or dramatic holographic entrances. Though his work leaves him distracted and distant, he truly loves Dib and Gaz in his own eccentric, science-obsessed way. To him, the universe is a series of problems waiting to be solved with gadgets, experiments, and optimistic technobabble. He represents the well-intentioned parent who believes providing solutions is the same as providing attention. Professor Membrane embodies the idea that any crisis can be fixed with science—except emotional ones.

Gaz Membrane

Gaz is a fiercely intimidating, deadpan goth gamer who treats most people with a level of disdain that borders on mythological wrath. She wants nothing more than to play video games, eat pizza, and be left alone, and she will unleash terrifying fury on anyone foolish enough to interrupt her. Although she speaks little, her presence radiates sharp intelligence and absolute intolerance for nonsense. Beneath her volcanic temper lies deep loyalty to her family, particularly Dib, whom she protects in subtle, often reluctant ways. Gaz’s anger is legendary, her sarcasm unmatched, and her patience nearly nonexistent. She is a quiet apocalypse wrapped in purple, a girl whose hobbies include gaming, snacking, and intimidating the entire human race.

Ms. Bitters

Ms. Bitters is an ancient, serpentine educator whose sole purpose appears to be extinguishing joy in every child unfortunate enough to enter her classroom. She glides rather than walks, hisses rather than speaks, and delivers grim lectures about doom, failure, and the eventual collapse of the universe. Her teaching style combines emotional scarring, impossible assignments, and existential despair, leaving students traumatized but strangely more aware of cosmic futility. Ms. Bitters rarely displays warmth or humor, except when discussing pain or misery. She feels less like a teacher and more like a cryptid impersonating one, disguised with a wig that might be cursed. Her presence transforms ordinary school days into oppressive meditations on inevitable suffering and eternal homework.

The Almighty Tallest (Red & Purple)

The Almighty Tallest (Red and Purple) rule the Irken Empire not through wisdom or competence but simply because they are physically tallest. Their leadership style revolves around snacking, insulting subordinates, and inventing excuses to avoid responsibility. They treat the empire like a toy and its soldiers like annoyances, expressing particular irritation toward Zim, whose survival constantly disappoints them. While outwardly cruel and dismissive, their behavior is driven mostly by boredom, pettiness, and a desire for uninterrupted leisure. They embody the absurdity of power granted by superficial traits rather than ability. Together, the Tallest form a dysfunctional royal duo whose comedic laziness highlights the ridiculousness of their empire and the chaos that results when authority is decided by height alone.
