The IDRlabs Aromantic Spectrum Test (ATS) was developed by IDRlabs, based on the Aromantic Spectrum Test.

The aromantic spectrum encompasses a diverse range of romantic orientations in which individuals experience little to no romantic attraction or experience it in ways that differ from societal norms. Unlike alloromantic individuals, who typically feel romantic attraction and seek romantic relationships, those on the aromantic spectrum may not experience these feelings or may do so in a fluid, situational, or non-traditional way. Aromanticism exists on a spectrum, meaning there are various identities and nuances within it, rather than a singular, fixed experience.

One of the key identities on the aromantic spectrum is aromanticism itself, where individuals feel little to no romantic attraction. However, many aromantic individuals still value deep relationships, including friendships, familial bonds, and queerplatonic partnerships, which can be just as meaningful as romantic connections. Society often prioritizes romance as an essential part of life, but aromantic individuals may find fulfillment outside of traditional romantic structures. Some may engage in relationships that focus on companionship, emotional support, and mutual care without the romantic element.

Beyond aromanticism, other identities exist within the spectrum, such as grayromantic and demiromantic. Grayromantic individuals experience romantic attraction infrequently or under specific circumstances, while demiromantic individuals only experience romantic attraction after forming a strong emotional connection with someone. These identities highlight the complexity of romantic attraction and how it varies from person to person. Others on the spectrum may experience romantic attraction but not in a way that aligns with conventional ideas of romance, such as needing unique conditions or rejecting societal expectations of romantic involvement.

Aromantic individuals may face challenges such as amatonormativity, the societal assumption that everyone desires romance and that romantic relationships are superior to other forms of connection. This can lead to misunderstandings, invalidation, and social pressure to conform to romantic expectations. Representation in media is often limited, reinforcing the idea that romance is a universal goal. However, increasing awareness and visibility of the aromantic spectrum helps validate these experiences and provide a sense of belonging for those who identify with it.

Understanding and respecting the aromantic spectrum fosters inclusivity and acknowledges that different people have different needs and desires regarding relationships. Whether someone identifies as aromantic, grayromantic, demiromantic, or somewhere else on the spectrum, their experiences are valid. Recognizing the diversity of romantic orientations helps create a world where all forms of connection are valued, regardless of whether they fit traditional romantic ideals.
