As the last member of the Sanka, she initially views her existence as a curse and accepts her status as a condemned criminal. She is naturally prickly and deeply distrustful of authority, yet she remains strikingly practical and helpful to those around her. Her journey involves moving past the crushing weight of survivor’s guilt and learning to trust others again. By finding a chosen family, she transforms her defensive isolation into a quiet, determined hope for a future beyond her past.

Shion Yamada Asaemon

Shion Yamada Asaemon is a blind senior executioner whose rigid sense of duty is gradually reshaped by grief, mentorship, and the realization that identity is not fixed by one's past. Formerly the 4th-ranked Asaemon, he was trained to be a model samurai who carries out sentences without questioning the justice system. However, his protective nature toward his students, particularly Tenza, reveals a deeply kind heart beneath his austere exterior. When tragedy strikes, he struggles with intense guilt and a desire for vengeance. Ultimately, he learns to reframe his responsibility as living well and guiding others, finding a new purpose beyond the blade.

Tenza Yamada Asaemon

Once a neglected street kid, he was taken in by the blind Asaemon Shion, who gave him purpose and discipline. Senta Yamada Asaemon

Senta Yamada Asaemon is a gentle, scholarly executioner who sacrifices personal dreams to uphold family tradition, quietly yearning for an authentic life he only glimpses in the freedom of others. Though highly competent with the sword, he dislikes killing and became an executioner only because his family demanded it, forcing him to abandon his childhood dream of becoming an artist. He is deeply knowledgeable and analytical, possessing a mind more drawn to contemplation than to violence. Assigned to monitor Yuzuriha, he finds himself fascinated by her brazen honesty. He envies her ability to live according to her own desires while he remains trapped by duty.

Yuzuriha

Yuzuriha is a seductive, seemingly carefree kunoichi and death-row criminal whose apparent frivolity hides ruthless self-preservation and a fiercely guarded, deeply wounded heart. Known as Yuzuriha of Keishu, she projects a bubbly, teasing personality that resembles a fun-loving teenager even amid carnage. In practice, she is calculating and profoundly solipsistic, often prioritizing her own safety over the lives of her allies. Her true emotional core emerges only in rare moments of vulnerability, particularly regarding her sick sister. Sagiri Yamada Asaemon

Sagiri Yamada Asaemon is a disciplined yet self-doubting executioner-heiress who learns to embrace her emotions instead of suppressing them, transforming perceived weakness into her greatest strength. Living under intense scrutiny in a male-dominated dojo that demands cold detachment, she is haunted by the weight of every life she takes. Chobei Aza is a ruthless bandit leader whose violent defiance of society masks a desperate, possessive love for his younger brother and a hunger to define his own worth in a world that discarded him.
