Social psychologist Zick Rubin was among the first researchers to create a tool for objectively assessing liking and loving. Rubin proposed that love is comprised of the components intimacy, caring, and attachment while liking is comprised of components affection, respect, and trust.

The work of Dr. Rubin has also informed some of the diagnostic criteria in the form of the aforementioned tool. The present test is intended for educational purposes only.
