Hatsuharu Sohma

Shigure Sohma

Shigure Sohma is the franchise’s quintessential morally gray strategist. Outwardly a lazy, joking, and slightly lecherous novelist, he is inwardly a ruthless planner willing to manipulate anyone—including the teenagers he shelters—to shatter the zodiac curse and claim Akito for himself. Shigure handles conflict obliquely. Rather than confront Akito head-on, he exploits her insecurities, leaks information at strategic times, and nudges younger characters into situations that force emotional crises. His primary motivation is obsessive love, intertwined with a desire to break the system that has dehumanized them both. He hides genuine feeling behind sarcasm and feigned apathy, keeping everyone at arm’s length.

Yuki Sohma

Yuki Sohma is the graceful, princely student whose outward perfection hides a history of extreme emotional abuse and profound isolation. As the Rat of the zodiac, he is trapped by the expectations of the Sohma family head, Akito, who has convinced him that he is unlovable and exists only to serve as a treasure. Kyo Sohma is a volatile, guilt-ridden outsider whose anger masks a deep terror of being unlovable. Cursed as the Cat of the zodiac, he is treated as a scapegoat from birth and forced to hide a monstrous true form behind a magical bracelet. His constant aggression and rivalry with Yuki are shields forged from profound self-loathing and regret over past tragedies he feels he failed to prevent.
