David

David is a cautious Sparrow Scout who prefers safe, predictable routines over risky adventures. He is easily startled, constantly swarmed by bugs, and highly vocal about his many anxieties. Despite his deep fear of the unknown, his core motive is a fierce loyalty to his friends. This loyalty creates his main contradiction: he is terrified of danger, yet he consistently steps into scary situations to help those he cares about. Over time, he learns to set firm boundaries and speak up for himself. He proves that true bravery is not about being completely fearless, but about choosing to help even when trembling with fear.

Johanna

Johanna is a devoted, hard-working mother who constantly balances her desire for a quiet, stable life with the chaotic reality of raising an adventurous daughter. She deeply values safety and routine, yet she constantly finds herself dragged into magical dangers. Her primary motive is to protect her family, but her protective instincts sometimes clash with her daughter's need for independence. When pushed too far by stress and worry, she asserts her authority and can snap under pressure. However, she always works tirelessly to rebuild and repair her relationships afterward. She often carries her worries alone, hiding her loneliness to remain a steady anchor.

Twig

Twig is Hilda's devoted deerfox companion whose fierce loyalty is balanced by a strong instinct for self-preservation. He acts as an early-warning system for his friends, using his sharp senses to sniff out hidden dangers and untrustworthy strangers. While he bravely places himself between his loved ones and massive threats, he is not foolishly fearless. He openly shows his boundaries, growling at suspicion and refusing to cooperate when a situation feels too risky. In moments of crisis, he relies on pure action rather than hesitation. He deeply values his chosen family, yet he retains a wild, independent streak that connects him to his own kind.

Frida

Frida is an organized Sparrow Scout and aspiring witch who strives for absolute perfection in everything she does. She excels at school, makes detailed plans, and collects achievement badges with intense focus. However, her highly capable exterior hides a deep fear of failure and a constant need for control. She easily panics when things go wrong, and she can become controlling or lash out at others when she feels incompetent. Despite her rigid standards, she cares deeply about her friends. She eventually learns that she does not have to be flawless to be worthy, finding true strength in accepting her own mistakes.

Tontu

Tontu is a prickly house-spirit whose cynical exterior hides a deep need for belonging. As a displaced nisse living in the hidden spaces of the home, his main goal is to secure a safe sanctuary where he can exist in peace. However, his defensive habit of pushing others away with sarcasm contradicts his quiet longing for a real family. He frequently complains, assumes the worst, and retreats into his private domain at the first sign of social tension. Yet, he is highly observant of emotional atmospheres. When his household is threatened, he drops his grumbling attitude and uses his unique magic to protect them. His journey is about learning to trust again after facing rejection.

Alfur

Alfur is a cheerful elf bureaucrat who channels his love for paperwork, contracts, and meticulous organization into helping his companions. He acts as a diplomatic mediator and scholar, motivated by a deep desire for order and connection. His main contradiction is that despite his endless list of phobias, including heights, trolls, and the dark, he remains remarkably optimistic and brave when his loved ones are threatened. He prefers peaceful negotiation and clever legal loopholes over physical conflict. While he deeply respects rules, he will gladly bend them to protect his friends. He manages his anxieties by relying on preparation, checklists, and social support.

Erik Ahlberg

Erik Ahlberg is the vainglorious head of the Trolberg Safety Patrol who desperately wants to be seen as a legendary hero. He is driven by a desire for public adoration and a lasting legacy, yet his reckless actions often create the very dangers he claims to fight. He implements aggressive security measures, like the loud troll-deterring bells, to project an image of absolute control. However, his massive ego makes him ignore sensible warnings and take credit for the hard work of his deputy, Gerda. While he is not truly malicious, his obsession with status blinds him to the truth until a crisis forces him to face his mistakes.
