Persona 5 Test

The IDRLabs Persona 5 Test is inspired by psychometric methodology and based on research into the characters of the video game. The test provides feedback such as the following:

Goro Akechi

Goro Akechi is the masked prodigy and Joker's dark mirror: a celebrated teen detective whose polished charm, humility, and intellect are a carefully engineered performance. The illegitimate, unwanted son of a powerful politician, he built an immaculate public image because being exceptional felt like the only way someone might finally want him. Beneath that smile is an unhinged, nihilistic rage that makes him Shido's secret assassin and a bitter rival to the Phantom Thieves. His defining tension is the conflict between his revenge narrative and a genuine, reluctant attachment to Joker that he cannot reconcile. Akechi embodies the cost of conditional love—what happens when identity is built entirely on being exceptional yet still feeling fundamentally unwanted.

Joker (Ren Amamiya)

Joker, also known as Ren Amamiya, is the quiet wildcard at the heart of the Phantom Thieves: a falsely accused transfer student who reinvents himself as a masked gentleman thief. Outwardly composed and unreadable, he is inwardly stubborn, decisive, and willing to take calculated gambles to protect the people society has written off. His defining tension is the contradiction between being labeled a criminal and behaving with more moral courage than the adults judging him. Beneath the trickster charm lies a person who trusts his own judgment more than any institution. Joker embodies the universal struggle of self-determination under stigma—refusing to let a ruined reputation dictate who you become.

Ann Takamaki

Ann Takamaki is the empathetic performer of the Phantom Thieves, a quarter-American model whose glamorous exterior hides years of isolation and bystander guilt. Judged relentlessly on her appearance, she grew up withdrawn and unsure where she belonged, her sense of self anchored by a single close friend whose suffering she couldn't prevent. That grief becomes her fuel: once she decides to act, her compassion hardens into an unforgiving resolve against abusers, and she refuses to ever be passive again. Her defining tension is the clash between a gentle, caring nature and the righteous fury she turns on those who harm the vulnerable. Ann represents reclaiming your voice after being objectified and silenced.

Ryuji Sakamoto

Ryuji Sakamoto is the loudmouthed bruised brawler of the Phantom Thieves, branded a delinquent after a corrupt coach destroyed his track career and reputation. Vulgar, short-tempered, and quick to charge in, he favors blunt confrontation over careful strategy and speaks long before he thinks. Yet his bad-boy swagger is a coping mechanism masking genuine kindness, loyalty, and a fragile fear that he really is the screw-up everyone says. His core drive is moral outrage at injustice and a fierce desire to spare others the pain he endured. Ryuji embodies the struggle to channel adolescent anger into something protective rather than destructive—a reminder that the loudest rebels are often the most tender underneath.

Futaba Sakura

Futaba Sakura is the shut-in analyst of the Phantom Thieves, a world-class hacker whose agoraphobic isolation followed the traumatic death of her mother. Extraordinarily intelligent and insatiably curious, she engages the world almost entirely through screens, hiding behind allies or masks whenever face-to-face contact becomes unbearable. She desperately wants truth and connection yet finds both excruciating to pursue, and her anxiety never fully disappears—it only becomes manageable. Her core drive begins as uncovering what happened to her mother and grows into loyal investment in her found family's mission. Futaba represents healing from trauma at your own pace, learning that analytical gifts can bridge the distance between hiding and belonging.

Makoto Niijima

Makoto Niijima is the burdened strategist, a brilliant student council president who hides a seething rebellious streak behind years of obedient overachievement. Outwardly composed, disciplined, and analytical, she is a tireless rule-follower who fears she has no worth outside of being useful to her sister, her school, and her late father's legacy. Her defining tension is that she both clings to and resents authority, excelling at the system until its injustice forces her to break it and rebuild herself as a leader on her own terms. Once freed, she becomes the team's tactician. Makoto embodies the high-achiever's struggle between external expectations and inner moral compass, between perfectionism and authenticity.

Yusuke Kitagawa

Yusuke Kitagawa is the alienated artist of the group, an eccentric honor student whose entire life is organized around the pursuit of aesthetic truth. He evaluates people, places, and even tense confrontations by how they expand his artistic horizons, giving him an oddly detached, observant presence. Raised by a famed mentor who exploited and stole from him, Yusuke carries a fragile dignity tied tightly to his legitimacy as an artist, and he overreacts whenever that status feels threatened. Sheltered and socially out of step, he acts on pure intentions but rarely notices how strange he seems. His journey is the search for authentic expression after exploitation—asserting his own vision rather than parroting authority.
