The IDRLabs Soul Eater Test is inspired by psychometric methodology and based on research into the characters of the Soul Eater series. The test provides feedback such as the following:
Maka Albarn
Maka Albarn is a driven, idealistic scythe-meister who channels her internal pain into responsibility and courage. She is the studious hero of the academy: bookish, perfectionistic, and morally serious, yet deeply emotionally accessible. She excels academically and relies on tactical logic to navigate the chaos of battle. Her defining traits are a relentless work ethic and the courage to stand against fear, even when she feels overwhelmed. Her core contradiction is that she hates to lose and projects total competence, yet she remains deeply insecure about her strength and terrified of vulnerability. She ultimately learns to trust others and uses her fear as a catalyst for growth.
Crona
Crona is a traumatized demon-sword meister whose crippling anxiety and self-loathing gradually transform into sacrificial courage. Raised in isolation and tortured by their mother Medusa, Crona is fused with the demon sword Ragnarok and conditioned to fear human contact. Their defining traits include extreme social avoidance and the habitual refrain of not knowing how to deal with the world. While initially a pawn manipulated into violence, Crona possesses a hidden capacity for deep loyalty. Through Maka’s persistent kindness, they slowly learn the value of friendship and eventually choose to defy their abusive past, ultimately sacrificing their own freedom to protect the world.
Medusa Gorgon
Medusa Gorgon is a cold, calculating witch who operates as a master manipulator within the halls of the Death Weapon Meister Academy. Driven by a clinical obsession with evolution and the potential of madness, she views the world and its inhabitants as mere variables in a grand, chaotic experiment. Her defining contradiction lies in her role as a mother; she possesses an intellect capable of profound insight, yet she subjects her own child, Crona, to systematic psychological torture to achieve her goals. She thrives on deception, seamlessly blending into society as a nurse while secretly orchestrating the resurrection of the Kishin to dismantle the existing order.
Tsubaki Nakatsukasa
Tsubaki Nakatsukasa is a gentle multi-form weapon who grounds others with patience and quiet strength. She is the archetypal nurturing partner, possessing the emotional intelligence to resonate with volatile souls when no one else can. Defined by kindness and a chronic tendency to apologize even when not at fault, she handles conflict by smoothing tensions and listening, only asserting herself when the stakes are high. Her background in the Nakatsukasa clan, where she inherited multiple forms meant for her brother, creates a burden of guilt and a habit of suppressing her own desires. She ultimately chooses to integrate her painful family history rather than quietly bearing it.
Soul Evans
Soul Evans is a laid-back demon scythe who hides his sensitivity and anxiety behind a cultivated cool persona. He embodies the slacker with a heart of gold, favoring jazz and sarcasm over the rigid academic focus of his partner, Maka. This nonchalance is a defensive style; he would rather crack jokes than admit fear or vulnerability. Despite his desire to appear unbothered, he is fiercely loyal and repeatedly risks his life to protect those he cares about. He struggles with feelings of inadequacy, yet he is learning that true strength comes from honesty and soul resonance rather than maintaining a fake, untouchable image.
Franken Stein
Franken Stein is a brilliant, unhinged scientist-meister who walks a knife-edge between care and cruelty, knowledge and madness. As a former Death Scythe meister, he occupies the mad mentor archetype, possessing Dumbledore-level competence fused with a dissection fetish and a literal screw in his head he can twist to adjust his sanity. His defining traits are intellectual curiosity pushed to amorality, sadistic humor, and a surprisingly paternal protectiveness toward his students. He is a self-experiment, constantly testing whether someone with a profoundly dark soul can choose to serve order and care for others rather than give in to the madness that constantly tempts him.
Black Star
Black Star is an exuberant, egocentric assassin-meister who vows to surpass God, masking deep-seated abandonment and social stigma with loud, relentless bravado. As the last survivor of the disgraced Star Clan, he carries the weight of his lineage’s crimes, which fuels both his overcompensation and a desperate need to be acknowledged as unique. His approach to conflict is aggressively physical and confrontational, often ignoring stealth to demand the spotlight. Beneath the noise, he is fiercely protective of his partner Tsubaki and his friends. He copes with fear through denial and escalation, yet he eventually learns to confront his own limitations and vulnerability.
Death the Kid
Death the Kid is a serious, perfectionistic reaper prince whose obsession with symmetry masks crushing expectations and questions of identity. As Lord Death’s son and a fragment of his father’s madness of order, he represents the heir apparent archetype: born to rule, hyper-aware of responsibility, and plagued by the need to be flawless. His defining traits are meticulousness, rule adherence, and a symmetry fixation so intense he will halt battles to fix a crooked picture frame. This perfectionism is a coping mechanism for the pressure of his lineage. Beneath his rigid exterior, he genuinely cares for his friends and learns to accept imperfection as a necessary part of existence.
