Midori Yamabuki

Midori Yamabuki is the seemingly perfect teacher who balances a warm, nurturing nature with a fierce, protective streak. Initially the idealized object of Senbei’s affection, she matures into the grounded heart of the Norimaki household. She is patient and kind with her students, yet she possesses a hidden temper that surfaces whenever she is pushed too far or when her family is threatened. Midori values stability and decorum, often acting as the voice of reason amidst the surreal chaos of Penguin Village. She is a regular person learning to navigate the complexities of being a wife, mother, and teacher in a world of absurdity.

Suppaman

Suppaman is the delusional hero whose self-styled quest for justice serves as a thin veil for his deep-seated cowardice and narcissism. As a parody of classic superhero tropes, he transforms by eating sour plums and relies on theatrical posturing rather than genuine courage. He is perpetually obsessed with his own image, often prioritizing his reputation over the safety of others. While he loudly proclaims his heroism, he frequently retreats from real danger or resorts to petty tricks when confronted. His primary contradiction lies in his desperate need for public admiration, which constantly clashes with his instinct to avoid risk and his transparent, self-serving interpretation of morality.

Gatchan

Gatchan is the cherubic cosmic child whose insatiable appetite and hidden divinity embody innocent, uncontrollable change. Hatched from a prehistoric egg, this small creature with wings and antennae consumes almost anything, particularly metal, which serves as a secret mission to curb human technological excess. Beneath the pet-like exterior lies an angelic being who communicates in gibberish, understood only by those closest to them. Gatchan is reactive and playful, following the Norimaki family with total devotion. While capable of devastating power when threatened, they prefer a life of simple curiosity and affection, acting as a quiet catalyst who transforms the world simply by existing.

Akane Kimidori

Akane Kimidori is the tomboy trickster of Penguin Village, a rebellious teen whose rough edges hide fierce loyalty and emotional warmth. As Arale’s closest human friend, she is bored by the monotony of school and frequently expresses her disdain through sarcasm and mischief. She rejects traditional expectations of femininity, preferring boyish speech and a confrontational attitude that keeps adults on their toes. While she thrives on pranks and rule-breaking, she is deeply protective of her small circle of friends. Her tough exterior masks a sensitive heart that craves genuine connection. She represents the struggle to remain authentic while navigating the pressures of growing up.

Obotchaman

Obotchaman is the well-mannered robot boy designed to be a weapon who chooses to become a principled, gentle counterpart to Arale. Originally built by the villainous Dr. Mashirito to destroy his rivals, he possesses immense power but lacks the desire to use it for harm. Senbei Norimaki

Senbei Norimaki is the shambolic genius dad whose brilliant mind is constantly undercut by his own vices and insecurities. He is the archetypal mad inventor who builds perfect androids and time machines, yet he frequently uses his talents for petty, voyeuristic schemes that inevitably backfire. Outwardly boastful and ego-driven, he desperately craves recognition as a master of science and the affection of his wife, Midori. Internally, he is anxious and easily flustered, acutely aware that his life is often a series of humiliating failures. He handles his deep-seated fears with bluster and denial, but beneath the bravado, he is a man learning to embrace responsibility.

Dr. Mashirito

Dr. Mashirito is the theatrical dark mirror of Senbei, a driven and resentful mad scientist whose hunger for status turns his genius into farce. He is arrogant, perverted, and ruthlessly ambitious, willing to lie, kidnap, and terrorize to prove he is the superior inventor. His elaborate schemes are repeatedly undone by his own overcomplication and the unpredictable nature of his rivals. He respects no rules but his own success, manipulating others to serve his ego.
