Reno Ichikawa

Kaiju No. 9

Kaiju No. 9 is the calculating inhuman antagonist who views the world as a resource to be harvested. He possesses the ability to shapeshift, absorb human memories, and create new kaiju, allowing him to infiltrate society with chilling precision. His core motive is the reclamation of power, driven by a cold, alien logic that prioritizes long-term dominance over immediate destruction. He is defined by his rapid adaptability, often retreating from battles only to return with new, evolved capabilities. While he mimics human behavior to deceive his enemies, he remains entirely detached from empathy, viewing even his most powerful adversaries as mere obstacles to be outmaneuvered.

Kafka Hibino

Kafka Hibino is a warm, self-deprecating underdog whose identity centers on the struggle of having failed to reach his dreams. At 32, he works as a kaiju corpse cleaner after repeated rejections from the Defense Force. He is determined and compassionate, yet deeply self-doubting. In conflict, Kafka defaults to protection and self-sacrifice, often throwing himself between allies and danger. He handles fear by leaning into gallows humor and stubborn optimism, even when his human release percentage is comically low. Soshiro Hoshina
