While he encourages escapism, he is surprisingly pragmatic and uses harsh truths to snap his friend Satou out of his slumps. He struggles to reconcile his passionate dreams of artistic success with the crushing reality of his family's farm obligations. Ultimately, his aggressive bluster covers a hardworking, vulnerable young man who deeply fears growing up and losing his hard-won independence.

Misaki Nakahara

Misaki Nakahara is a mysterious young woman who appoints herself as a savior to a shut-in neighbor. She presents herself as a cheerful, knowledgeable guide who can cure his social withdrawal through nightly lectures and formal contracts. Underneath this helpful exterior, she struggles with intense trauma and a deep fear of abandonment. She seeks out people she perceives as more broken than herself because she desperately needs to feel useful and wanted. She uses emotional manipulation, secret surveillance, and strict agreements to keep others from leaving her. Her desire to rescue others is a fragile shield against her own profound loneliness.

Tatsuhiro Satou

Tatsuhiro Satou is a severely isolated young man who lives as a shut-in to escape the pressures of adult life. He desperately craves human connection and a sense of purpose, yet he actively avoids any real responsibility. To cope with his intense shame and anxiety, he blames his failures on an elaborate, imaginary media conspiracy. He spends his days sleeping, telling impulsive lies to dodge confrontations, and retreating into vivid daydreams where his household appliances talk to him. Despite his deep self-loathing and defensive avoidance, he possesses a sensitive heart and occasionally makes fragile, desperate attempts to change when others drag him into the light.
