The HEXACO test is a proposed innovation of the scientific Big Five system of personality. This shortened version of the standard HEXACO test focuses on a person’s dark side, as proposed by Michael C. Ashton, Ph.D. and Kibeom Lee, Ph.D.

The Big Five, or Five Factor Model (FFM), is the gold standard in social science, and is at the forefront of scientific personality testing. The HEXACO system of personality is a research-based proposed innovation of the Big Five as derived by statistical inference; the five top level traits of openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism are combined with the sixth factor of Honesty-Humility to constitute the “Big Six” in the HEXACO system.
