Wendy Byrde

Wendy Byrde is an ambitious, politically savvy strategist whose hunger for power and agency gradually eclipses her initial survival motives. Canonically a former political operative who becomes Marty’s partner in cartel laundering and local casino politics, she evolves from a supportive spouse into a criminal mastermind driving the family’s expansion into foundations and political influence. She leverages relationships with politicians and cartel figures to build a pseudo-legitimate empire. While she genuinely loves her children, she repeatedly chooses the enterprise over their immediate safety, rationalizing horrifying choices as necessary for long-term survival. She treats rules as tools to be co-opted, constantly seeking to dominate rather than merely endure.

Ben Davis

Ben Davis is the impulsive and emotionally raw brother of Wendy Byrde, serving as the show’s tragic conscience. His struggle with bipolar disorder leaves him unable to navigate the moral gray zones that his family inhabits. While he is warm, idealistic, and deeply loving, his inability to suppress his reactions to injustice makes him a dangerous liability in the world of the cartel. He values truth and genuine connection above all else, often acting on his feelings without considering the lethal consequences. His presence highlights the fragility of those who cannot compartmentalize their emotions, ultimately forcing others to confront the human cost of their survival.

Charlotte Byrde

Jonah Byrde

Jonah Byrde is the introverted, morbidly curious son of the Byrde family, whose early fascination with death and surveillance evolves into cold, technical competence. Initially a withdrawn child, he reacts to his parents' criminal life not with panic, but with intense, analytical research. He possesses a sharp intellect and a deep sensitivity to hypocrisy, which eventually drives him to rebel against his parents' moral compromises. While he initially seeks to protect his integrity, he paradoxically adopts the same self-preserving, calculating logic he once despised. Jonah represents the way trauma and exposure to violence can shape a young person’s ethics, turning idealism into a hardened, tactical survival instinct.

Omar Navarro

Omar Navarro is a soft-spoken, corporate-minded kingpin who balances ruthless violence with a calculated, bureaucratic approach to crime. He views his cartel as a global enterprise, prioritizing brand image, diversification, and legal immunity over the chaotic brutality of his rivals. Beneath his eerie, composed exterior lies a man obsessed with succession and legacy, constantly testing the loyalty of those around him. He treats formal systems like the FBI as chessboard constraints to be manipulated rather than absolute rules. While he possesses a genuine, if compartmentalized, love for his family, he remains fundamentally isolated, trapped by the very power he seeks to legitimize.
